The North Face or The North Fake from Vietnam

In Vietnam, there are plenty of shops with The North Face label on their products.

We entered in one of them and we found out that a pair of trekking boots costs only 25$. Amazing, right? We just walked away being convinced that they are fake.

After a few days, arriving in Sapa, we reconsidered our first impression and we thought that maybe the prices are so low because The North Face is fabricated in Vietnam.

After researching a little bit, we didn’t find much accurate information so we just started entering the shops and studying the differences.

Here is a list of 8 aspects you should consider before buying a product labeled The North Face in Vietnam:

1. The hangtag itself

In the pictures below you can spot the differences:

    • the fake one has a sticker with the size on the hangtag
    •  the elements and the presentations on the hangtags

2. The place of the hangtags on the products

Usually, the hangtags are hanging on the zipper. For sure you won’t find them penetrating the material.

3. The whistle

Some of the original buckles of the bags are marked with a distinctive sign and have a whistle.

7. The appearance of the shop

This chicken may be cute, but you won’t find in an original The North Face shop. 🙂

8. Just try them on

If you forget all the information above and you find yourself looking for some original The North Face product, just try them on. You will feel immediately the difference. The shoes are extremely uncomfortable and trust me, usually, I don’t wear expensive shoes, but I can tell the difference.

Of course, there can be many more others differences, but these ones are a good start if you are looking for quality and not for a label.

Nevertheless, ask the vendor if the products are originals. They don’t even claim that the products are originals. This is what they sell. The products are thought to be fabricated in China and commercialized in Vietnam.

Meanwhile, we are in Sapa during some rainy days with our wet running shoes and with not so many options for buying suitable ones. We wanted to purchase a pair of boots even if they are fake, but as I said before they are very uncomfortable.
